Raricricetodon was named by Tong (1997). Its type is Raricricetodon zhongtiaensis. It is the type genus of Raricricetodontinae.
It was synonymized subjectively with Pappocricetodon by de Bruijn et al. (2003), Gomes Rodrigues et al. (2010).
It was assigned to Raricricetodontinae by Tong (1997); and to Pseudocricetodontinae by Maridet and Ni (2013).
