Taxonomy
Occitanomys provocator was named by de Bruijn (1976) [The generic affiliation was given with a question mark.]. Its type specimen is IVAU PI 232, a tooth (M1 sup. sin.), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Chomateri, which is in a Miocene fluvial siltstone/claystone in the Pikermi Formation of Greece.
