Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
E. L. Yochelson and H. Yin 1985Small, strongly lirate bellerophontaceans having narrow umbilici. Umbilici relatively small, the whorl profile uniformly curved from the opening across the shell to the periphery; curvature after crossing periphery decreasing so that the profile approximates that of a Roman helmet, being only slightly curved beyond the umbilici and having a prominent dorsal crest bearing the selenizone. Selenizone raised and very slightly concave between individual lira; slit depth unknown; lunulae unknown. Growth lines, rising from the umbilici about at right angles to the axis of coiling along the flanks and continuing straight for about half the total width of the whorl, then gradually arching back to form an angle of about 30" with the edge of the selenizone. Ornament of mature stage consisting of more than 20 moderately coarse spiral lirae, each lira semicircular in cross section; interspaces about four times as wide as the lirae; ornament of early growth stages unknown. Growth lines exceedingly faint, best seen as impressions. Outer shell layer exceedingly thin. Inductural deposits unknown.
