Vescornis was named by Zhang et al. (2004). Its type is Vescornis hebeiensis.
It was assigned to Euenantiornithes by Zhang et al. (2004), Cau and Arduini (2008); to Enantiornithes by Zhou and Wang (2010); and to Enantiornithes by O'Connor and Zelenkov (2013), Zhang et al. (2014), Wang et al. (2014), O'Connor et al. (2014), Wang et al. (2014), Wang et al. (2015), Wang and Liu (2015).
