Feilongus was named by Wang et al. (2005). It was considered monophyletic by Lü et al. (2012).
It was assigned to Archaeopterodactyloidea by Wang et al. (2005); to Gallodactylidae by Wang and Zhou (2006) and Zhou and Wang (2010); to Lophocratia by Andres et al. (2014); and to Moganopterinae by Lü et al. (2012) and Wang et al. (2014).
