Corbula chipolana was named by Gardner (1928) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene; Florida.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS Loc. 3419 - McClelland Farm [Chipola Fm], which is in a Burdigalian marine marl/sandstone in the Chipola Formation of Florida.
It was recombined as Varicorbula chipolana by Anderson and Roopnarine (2003).
