Muracypraea cayapa

Taxonomy
Cypraea cayapa was named by Pilsbry and Olsson (1941). Its type specimen is ANSP 13665, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Zone B (lower) - Jama Formation, which is in a Pliocene offshore sandstone in the Jama Formation of Ecuador.

It was recombined as Cypraea (Muracypraea) cayapa by Weisbord (1962); it was recombined as Siphocypraea cayapa by Petuch (1988); it was recombined as Barycypraea (Muracypraea) cayapa by Groves (1993); it was recombined as Muracypraea cayapa by Groves (1997), DeVries et al. (2006) and Landau and Groves (2011).
