Taxonomy
Pycnoidocoscinus was named by Bedford and Bedford (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto-u]. It is the type genus of Pycnoidocoscinidae.

It was corrected as Pycnoidoscinus by Voronova et al. (1987).

It was assigned to Archaeocyathida by Voronova et al. (1987), Sepkoski (2002); and to Pycnoidocoscinidae by Debrenne et al. (2015), Novack-Gottshall (2025).
