Taxonomy
Parietobalaena yamaokai was named by Otsuka and Ota (2008). Its type specimen is HMN-F00022, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Monde-cho, which is in a Burdigalian estuary/bay sandstone/limestone in the Itahashi Formation of Japan.
