Taxonomy
Archaeosycon balsami was named by McMenamin et al. (2000). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Austinville reefs, which is in a Botomian reef, buildup or bioherm bafflestone/floatstone in the Shady Dolomite Formation of Virginia.
