Taxonomy
Strophalosia inexpectans was named by Cooper and Grant (1975). Its type specimen is USNM 151229b, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Guadalupelosia.
It was recombined as Guadalupelosia inexpectans by Archbold and Simanauskas (2001).
