Otarionidae was named by Richter and Richter (1926). It is not extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Aulacopleuridae by Thomas and Owens (1978); it was reranked as the subfamily Otarioninae by Adrain and Kloc (1997).
It was assigned to Aulacopleuridae by Adrain and Kloc (1997); and to Aulacopleuroidea by Lamsdell and Selden (2015).
It was synonymized subjectively with Aulacopleuridae by Thomas and Owens (1978); it was reranked as the subfamily Otarioninae by Adrain and Kloc (1997).
It was assigned to Aulacopleuridae by Adrain and Kloc (1997); and to Aulacopleuroidea by Lamsdell and Selden (2015).
