Taeniaster spinosus

Taxonomy

Palaeocoma spinosa was named by Billings (1857). Its type specimen is Lectotype 1404, Victoria Memorial Museum, Ottawa and is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Taeniaster.

It was recombined as Taeniaster spinosus by Billings (1858), Miller (1889), Schuchert (1915), Spencer (1934) and Owen (1965).

Synonyms

Protaster whiteavesianus was named by Parks (1908). Its type specimen is Cotypes 638T, University of Toronto and is not a trace fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Taeniaster spinosus by Spencer (1934).
Protasterina fimbriata was named by Ulrich (1878). Its type specimen is Syntypes USNM 60615 and is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Protasterina.

It was synonymized subjectively with Protaster flexuosus by Schuchert (1915); it was synonymized subjectively with Taeniaster spinosus by Spencer (1934); it was recombined as Taeniaster fimbriatus by Owen (1965).
