Eugaster logani was named by Hall (1868). It is the type species of Eugasterella.
It was synonymized subjectively with Protaster sedgwickii by Spencer (1934); it was recombined as Eugasterella logani by Schuchert (1914), Schuchert (1915), Jell and Theron (1999).
