Hamites armatus was named by Sowerby (1817) [DISTRIBUTION: Albian.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Anisoceras armatus by Jaccard (1869); it was recombined as Anisoceras (Anisoceras) armatum by Cooper and Kennedy (1979); it was recombined as Anisoceras armatum by Choffat (1905), Haas (1942), Kennedy et al. (1998), Szives (2007), Kennedy and Latil (2007), Kennedy et al. (2008).
