Taxonomy
Cyrtella australis was named by Thomas (1971). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is BMR GW75, Callytharra Springs, which is in a Sakmarian coastal siliciclastic in the Callytharra Formation of Australia.
It was recombined as Punctocyrtella australis by Shen et al. (2000).
