Taxonomy
Euraxemys essweini was named by Gaffney et al. (2006). Its type specimen is FR 4922, a skeleton (nearly complete skeleton), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Crato, which is in an Aptian marine horizon in Brazil.
