Taxonomy
Plectoceras was named by Hyatt (1884) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-l O Ashg Sepkoski's reference number: 298,524]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Plectoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964), Crick (1981), Frey (1995); and to Barrandeocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
