Taxonomy
Girtypecten ovalis was named by Dickins (1963). It is not extant. Its type specimen is UWA 45397, a valve (Left valve). Its type locality is Fossil Cliff, Irwin River (UWA collection), which is in a Sakmarian marine siliciclastic in the Holmwood Formation of Australia.
