Taxonomy
Macrodontopteryx was named by Harrison and Walker (1976).

It was synonymized subjectively with Dasornis by Bourdon et al. (2010).

It was assigned to Odontopterygidae by Harrison and Walker (1976) and Harrison and Walker (1977); and to Pelagornithidae by Mlikovsky (2002), Mayr (2008) and Mayr and Smith (2010).
