Ptychomphalina dickinsi was named by Swart (1998). Its type specimen is CPC 34941, a shell, and it is a mold. Its type locality is BMR GW54, Bush Creek, Dairy Creek Homestead, which is in an Artinskian coastal siliciclastic in the Coyrie Formation of Australia.
