Taxonomy
Albireo savagei was named by Barnes (2008). Its type specimen is UCMP 112048, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Avilla Beach W, which is in a Piacenzian offshore shelf sandstone in the Pismo Formation of California.
