Dimorphoceras was named by Hyatt (1883) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u Sepkoski's reference number: 954]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dimorphoceratinae by Korn (2006), Furnish et al. (2009).
