Taxonomy
Epitornoceras was named by Frech (1902) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give-u D Fras-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,1042]. It is not extant. Its type is Goniatites (Tornoceras) mithracoides.

It was reranked as Tornoceras (Epitornoceras) by Frech (1902).

It was assigned to Tornoceras by Frech (1902); to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tornoceratinae by Korn and Klug (2002), Korn (2006), Bockwinkel et al. (2013), Bockwinkel et al. (2013), Bockwinkel et al. (2015), Bockwinkel and Korn (2015).
