Taxonomy
Chlamytherium occidentale was named by Hoffstetter (1952). Its type specimen is EPN V 117, a maxilla (right maxilla), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Pampatherium occidentalis by Paula Couto (1954); it was recombined as Hoffstetteria occidentalis by Castellanos (1957); it was recombined as Holmesina occidentalis by Hoffstetter (1953), Edmund (1996), Rincón et al. (2008).
