Taxonomy
Girtyoceras was named by Wedekind (1918) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u C Serp-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,304]. It is not extant. Its type is Adelphoceras meslerorum. It is the type genus of Girtyoceratinae.
It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Girtyoceratinae by Furnish et al. (2009); and to Girtyoceratidae by Korn (2006) and Korn and Titus (2015).
