Kardailites was named by Ruzhentsev and Bogoslovskaya (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp-l P Leon Sepkoski's reference number: 304]. Its type is Kardailites primus.
It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Cravenoceratinae by Kuzina and Yatskov (1990), Korn (2006); and to Stenoglaphyritinae by Furnish et al. (2009).
