Pectinator was named by Blyth (1856) [also said to be 1855]. It is extant. Its type is Pectinator spekei.

It was assigned to Pectinatoridae by Blyth (1856); to Rodentia by von Heuglin (1861); and to Ctenodactyli by Peters (1871).
