Eoazhdarcho was named by Lü and Ji (2005).

It was synonymized subjectively with Chaoyangopterus by Wang and Zhou (2006).

It was assigned to Chaoyangopteridae by Lü et al. (2008); and to Azhdarchidae by Lü and Ji (2005) and Andres et al. (2014).
