Macrocnemus bassanii
Taxonomy
Macrochemus bassanii was named by Nopcsa (1930). Its type specimen is MSNM specimen Besano I (destroyed during WWII?), a partial skeleton (skull, complete vertebral column, humerus, tibia and fibula), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Besano (Scisti bituminosi), which is in an Anisian/Ladinian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal dolomite/shale in the Besano Formation of Italy. It is the type species of Macrocnemus.
It was recombined as Macrocnemus bassanii by Kuhn (1971), Chatterjee (1980), Chatterjee (1986), Ezcurra (2016).
