Taxonomy
Tyrannosauripus was named by Lockley and Hunt (1994). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is the type genus of Tyrannosauripodidae.

It was assigned to Theropoda by Romero Molina et al. (2003); to Tyrannosauridae by Lockley and Hunt (1994) and Manning et al. (2008); and to Tyrannosauripodidae by McCrea et al. (2014).
