Metadinarites was named by Spath (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Dinarites desertorum.

It was assigned to Aplococeratidae by Spath (1951), Tozer (1981); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
