Fletcheripecten lyonsi was named by Waterhouse (1986). Its type specimen is CPC 2254, a valve (Left valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Callytharra Springs (1 mile W), Byro Homestead, which is in a Sakmarian coastal siliciclastic in Australia.
