Preflorianites was named by Spath (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nm Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Danubites strongi.

It was reranked as Danubites (Preflorianites) by Kiparisova (1961).

It was assigned to Danubites by Kiparisova (1961); to Flemingitinae by Tozer (1981); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Xenoceltitidae by Spath (1934), Kummel (1969), Brühwiler and Bucher (2012); and to Kashmiritidae by Brayard et al. (2013), Shigeta and Nguyen (2014).
