Taxonomy
Gordonaster brassfieldensis was named by Blake and Ettensohn (2009). Its type specimen is holotype UK 116100; sparatypes UK 116101-116102 and is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Gordonaster.

skeleton developing in larger individuals; ossicles of primary circlet
and carinals weakly enlarged. Marginals in two series; superomarginals
shieldlike, dorsal-lateral in position; inferomarginals
forming planar ventral surface. Marginals of two series linked
to intermarginal series by facets. Adambulacrals closely fitted,
forming tightly fitted cover over ambulacral furrow; furrow protected
by short, stout spines. Buccal slit extends to the third ambulacral.
