Taxonomy
Encheiziphius teretirostris was named by Rutimeyer (1857). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Montpellier, which is in a Zanclean marine sandstone in the Sables à Gryphaea virleti Formation of France. It is the type species of Brachyrhynchus.
It was recombined as Brachyrhynchus teretirostris by Van Beneden (1871).
