Reiflingites was named by Arthaber (1896) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Anis-m Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Reiflingites eugeniae.

It was assigned to Ceratitidae by Spath (1934); to Balatonitidae by Tozer (1981); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bulogitinae by Vörös (2018).
