Taxonomy
Thanamites was named by Diener (1908) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Thanamites bicuspidatus. It is the type genus of Thanamitidae.
It was assigned to Isculitidae by Spath (1951); to Thanamitidae by Tozer (1981), Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
