Taxonomy
Vavilovites was named by Tozer (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Indu-l Tr Indu-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Vavilovitidae.

It was assigned to Proptychitidae by Tozer (1994); to Vavilovitidae by Zakharov (2002); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Paranoritidae by Ware and Bucher (2018), Ware and Bucher (2018).
