Taxonomy
Sula clarki was named by Chandler (1990). Its type specimen is SDSNH 26214/3181-C, a limb element (left coracoid), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is SDNHM 4393, which is in a Blancan marine horizon in the San Diego Formation of California.
