Taxonomy
Hyperodapedon gordoni was named by Huxley (1859). Its type specimen is ELGNM 1978.566, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lossiemouth West & East Quarries, Elgin, which is in a Carnian/Norian dune sandstone/sandstone in the Lossiemouth Sandstone Formation of the United Kingdom.
