Taxonomy
Sporadopora cleithridium was named by Squires (1958). Its type locality is GS 5170, S175/585 Port Craig, which is in a Kapitean coastal sandstone in New Zealand.

It was recombined as Axopora cleithridium by Cairns and Grant-Mackie (1993).
