Taxonomy

Canavaria was named by Gemmellaro (1886) [Sepkoski's age data: J Plie-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Harpoceras (Dumortieria) haugi.

It was assigned to Arieticeratinae by Howarth (1955), Thomson and Smith (1992), Smith and Tipper (1996), Sepkoski (2002), Hillebrandt (2006), Howarth (2013); and to Harpoceratinae by Benzaggagh et al. (2023).
