Spirifer trautscholdi was named by Stuckenberg (1905).

It was recombined as Choristites trautscholdi by Li et al. (1986); it was recombined as Trautscholdia trautscholdi by Kalashnikov (1998); it was recombined as Alphachoristites trautscholdi by Williams et al. (2006).
