Oxystomata was named by Milne-Edwards (1834) [ranked as a "section" by Fraaye and Collins 1987]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Brachyrhyncha by Rathbun (1926); and to Brachyura by Rathbun (1918), Deraniyagala (1968), Fraaye and Collins (1987).
