Poecilodus paradoxus was named by Waagen (1879). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Virgal, coral limestone, upper Middle Productus-limestone, Salt Range, which is in a Wuchiapingian marine limestone in the Wargal Formation of Pakistan.
