Pezopallichthys was named by Wilson and Caldwell (1998) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-l]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Pezopallichthyidae.
It was assigned to Furcacaudiformes by Wilson and Caldwell (1998); to Furcacudiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pezopallichthyidae by van der Laan (2019).
