Taxonomy
Hemiaster fourneli was named by Agassiz and Dessor (1847). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Mecaster fourneli by Pomel (1883), Smith (1991), Néraudeau and Courville (1997) and Manso and Andrade (2008).
