Taxonomy
Polyptychoceras was named by Yabe (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: K Coni-u K Maes-l Sepkoski's reference number: 971]. It is the type genus of Polyptychoceratinae.

It was assigned to Diplomoceratinae by Matsumoto (1984); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Polyptychoceratinae by Kennedy and Summesberger (1999), Ifrim et al. (2013).
