Discoglossoidei was named by Sokol (1977). It is extant.

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Archaeobatrachia by Gao and Wang (2001); it was considered an invalid subgroup of Anuri by Hoegg et al. (2004); it was reranked as the suborder Discoglossoidea by Folie et al. (2013).

It was assigned to Anura by Sanchiz (1998); and to Anura by Evans et al. (1990) and Folie et al. (2013).
